Management Masters/International Study Tour

MSc Management students have the opportunity to apply for a place on the International Study Tour Module (elective) to Athens, Geneva or Mannheim.
Our strong international activities are an integral part of the programme and aim at providing you with the experiential learning needed to acquire an inside perspective of operating globally.
International Study Tours:
During the International Study Tours, a group of students visit a European destination (e.g. Geneva, Mannheim, Athens) for about a week. The destinations are offered as electives. These partially self-funded competitive activities give you the opportunity to both visit a series of prestigious global businesses and to analyse them using a structured learning approach. As such the International Study tours expose you to the challenges of global business, make new contacts, and equip you with the international awareness needed to stand out in the competitive jobs market. All of this while having fun!
Summer Schools :
During the summer you will be able to participate to summer schools in one of our global network of University and business partners. These partially self-funded competitive activities, normally one week long intensive courses cover a wide range of topics and aim to a) complement the knowledge you receive while in Durham and b) contextualise it in an international setting.
During the dissertation abroad (for which in some cases there is Erasmus funding available) you will be able to undertake part or all of your dissertation/business project in one of our prestigious partner institutions.
Students on the MSc in Management with International Business route are normally expected to engage with at least one of the above activities.
The dates and cost of the trip will be confirmed in due course.
In previous years this trip has taken place at the beginning of the Easter Vacation.
The Module has limited places, and there will be an anonymous competitive selection process if demand exceeds the number of places.

What Is Not Included
• Arranging and paying for Travel to/from destination
• Ensuring you comply with visa/travel permit requirements for the country visited
• Applying for a visa 2 months or more in advance of travel, if you need one
• Purchasing additional travel insurance if required (e.g. dangerous sports, like skiing etc.)
• Meals not stated in the itinerary
• Incidental expenses
We would recommend that students budget a minimum of £350-£400 (approximately) to cover the above expenses.
Applications Open at mid October 2018 and students informed of the outcome of their application by the end of October 2018.
Selection will be based on a personal statement of no more than 500 words explaining:
1) What is it about the tour that interests you?
2) What do you hope to learn on the tour that links to your Programme
3) How will you contribute to make this a positive and productive experience for the group?
