Economics Masters/IT Facilities
From DBS Applicant Gateway
There are over 50 high specification PCs available in the new IT lab and Library at Mill Hill Lane. These have a wide range of applications installed, including Office 2010, SPSS, Matlab, Datastream and Bloomberg. Printing is provided via colour high volume printers, located close to the IT labs. Remote access is provided via Citrix which allows you to use various Business School applications when outside the school.
There is a dedicated IT support team who can advise or assist with hardware or software issues. If you have a laptop and would prefer to use that, you may bring it with you – wireless access is available throughout the Business School. You will be issued with your own @durham.ac.uk email address shortly after registration, and you will also have your own network drive for file storage.
The Masters Programme uses an online system called DUO (Durham University Online). As a postgraduate student, you will be required to produce word-processed essays and assignments. If you are not already proficient in Microsoft Word, then you are strongly advised to become so before the start of the programme. You will also find it useful to have an understanding of how to use other Microsoft Office packages, such as Excel and PowerPoint.
